Press Release - 12/9/2015 - HPD arrests shooting suspects Posted on: December 9, 2015 HPD arrests shooting suspects According to Huntsville Police Chief Kevin Lunsford, on December 8, 2015, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 2100 block of Sycamore Avenue. Upon subsequent investigation officers learned that the shooting had occurred during an aggravated robbery. Two suspects, later identified as Todd Goodjoint, 17, and Deshawn Bates, 19, approached the victim at his car. The suspects produced a handgun and demanded property from the victim. It is believed a struggle between the victim and the suspects ensued, during which the suspects shot the victim several times. The suspects then fled the scene. Officers responded quickly and began a search. As a result of the work of Officer James Reynolds and his K9 partner Raico, the suspects were located nearby, in the 300 block of Olive Street. Officers also found a handgun believed to be involved in the offense. Chief Lunsford said that the victim was transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston via LifeFlight and is being treated for injuries resulting from this violent crime. Both Goodjoint and Bates have been charged with Aggravated Robbery, a 1st degree felony which carries a punishment of life, or 5 years to 99 years, in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
