RESO 1981-06 - Election Results 4-4-81RESOLUTION NO. 81 -6 A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, ON THE 4TH DAY OF APRIL, 1981, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AT LARGE AND FOUR (4) COUNCILMEN FROM THE RESPECTIVE WARDS NOS. ONE (1), TWO (2), THREE (3) AND FOUR (4) TO SERVE REGULAR TWO YEAR TERMS; AND FOR FURTHER PURPOSE OF VOTING ON THE ADOPTION OF THE FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAID ELECTION; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 6.07 of the Charter of the City of Huntsville, the City Council of said City, at a regular meeting held on this 7th day of April, 1981, proceeded, as re- quired by law, to canvass the returns of the Regular Municipal Election held in the City of Huntsville on the 4th day of April, 1981, for the purpose of electing a Mayor -at -large and four (4) Councilmen from the respective wards Nos. One (1), Two (2), Three (3) and Four (4); and for further purpose of voting on the Adoption of the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act for the Police Department; said Election having been held under and pursuant to the provisions of the Charter of said City, the laws of the State, and Ordinance No. 81 -13 calling said Election; and WHEREAS, said Election having been duly and regularly had and held as called in said ordinance and according to law, and the returns thereof having been duly made and the Election Judges having certified the results of said Election, as hereinafter set out, and the City Council having duly and regularly canvassed the returns of said Election and finding that the total votes cast at said Election were as follows, to -wit: FOR MAYOR AT LARGE Larry Dickens 741 votes Bill Nash 898 votes FOR COUNCILMAN WARD NO. 1 Jane Monday 592 votes FOR COUNCILMAN WARD NO. 2 Jerry Dowling 237 votes FOR COUNCILMAN WARD NO. 3 Goree McGlothen 222 votes FOR COUNCILMAN WARD NO. 4 Delora King 269 votes THE ADOPTION OF THE/FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE ACT FOR 690 votes AGAINST 859 votes AND WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, finds the Election returns set out above to be accurate and correct and no Election protest or contest having been filed with said Council or instituted in connection with said Election returns; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS: Section 1: That BILL NASH was duly elected Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, at said Election. Section 2: That JANE MONDAY was duly elected to the office of Councilman from Ward No. One (1). Section 3: That JERRY DOLLING was duly elected to the office of Councilman from Ward No. Two (2). Section 4: That GOREE McGLOTHEN was duly elected to the office of Councilman from Ward No. Three (3). Section 5: That DELORA KING was duly elected to the office of Councilman from Ward No. Four (4). Section 6: That the Firemen's and Policemen's Civil Service Act was not adopted for the Police Department. Section 7: That the City Council of the City of Huntsville further finds that the notice of said Election was duly and proper- ly given as required by law and as provided in the ordinances calling said Election, and that said Election was duly and regu- larly held and the returns thereof duly and regularly made by the proper officials of said Election, and in all things according to law.
