Proc. 2011-12 Wounded Warrior Project Day 01-13-2011CLAIIIATION l0 2011 -Y2 WHEREAS the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a non-profit organization aimed at assisting the men and women of the United States armed forces who have been severely injured during the war on terrorism and WHEREAS the Wounded Warrior Project began with the efforts of a small group of people, including veterans, who, upon hearing the first reports of severely wounded soldiers returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, embarked on a mission to assist these brave men and women on their road to physical and psychological recovery; and WHEREAS they provide programs and services designed to ease the burdens of the wounded and their families, aid in the recovery process, and smooth their transition back to civilian life; and WHEREAS, the project has touched the lives of many service members and their families through financial assistance, lifting morale, providing rehabilitation, counseling, and education; and WHEREAS from the beaches of Normandy and the snows of Korea to the mountains of Afghanistan and the deserts of Iraq, our courageous veterans have sacrificed so that Americans and others could live in freedom. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT H.EREBYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: January, 13, 2012 be declared: "Wounded Warrior Project Day" in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of the extraordinary men and women who have served our nation.
