RESO 1999-21 - SH 19-Thomas Randle HwyRESOLUTION 99 -21 Whereas, Thomas L. Randle has provided community service and leadership in the area of Public Transportation Planning and Improvements for Huntsville and Walker County for over 55 years; and Whereas, Mr. Randle believes that a good road system is a necessity for a strong economy in a healthy community, therefore he has always been a life long champion of highway projects regardless of benefit to his hometown or other locales because he feels that good roads, benefit all people; and Whereas, in recognition of Mr. Tom's good works and tireless efforts in support of highway projects across the State of Texas, he was named a "Road Hand" in 1980 by the Texas Highway Commission; and Whereas, in the 1960's, Tom Randle launched a visionary initiative to build a four lane- divided bypass on the east side of Huntsville which would facilitate access to Lake Livingston and all of eastern Texas from I H 45 for general transportation expedience and as an optional emergency evacuation route from the Houston metropolitan area; and Whereas, following several failed attempts to pass a bond issue to finance the purchase of the necessary right -of -way to build the proposed bypass and four lane divided route to Riverside, the voter's of Precinct One provided the necessary approval in 1964; and Whereas, The Texas Department of Transportation therefore commenced the construction of the improvements which continue to this day to implement the visionary project proposed by our "Mister Transportation "; and Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville that the proposal authored by the Commissioner's Court of Walker County to name State Highway 19 from its intersection with Interstate 45, north to the Walker County line at Riverside, Texas be fully endorsed and supported as: "The Thomas L. Randle Highway" in honor of the man who has done so much for the public transportation needs of Huntsville, Walker County, and the State of Texas. William B.
