AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, REDISTRICTING COUNCIL WARD NUMBERS
ONE, TWO, THREE AND FOUR BY THE ADDITION AND DELETION
OF CERTAIN PROPERTIES; REPEALING ORDINANCES
INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE, AND
MAKING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATED THERETO.
WHEREAS, Section 4.04 of the City Charter of the City of
Huntsville, Texas, provides that Council may redistrict its
four Wards by Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, based on recent census figures and action of the
Walker County Commissioners' Court redistricting County,
Council desires to redistrict City;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS that;
Section 1: Council Ward Number One is hereby redistricted
to contain the following area:
BEGINNING at the intersection of Rosenwall Road and the
northern boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE south along Rosenwall Road to its intersection with
FM 2821;
THENCE south along Smith Hill Road to its intersection with
Old Madisonville Road;
THENCE south along Old Madisonville Road to its intersection
with Tenth Street;
THENCE east along Tenth Street to its intersection with
University Avenue;
THENCE south along University Avenue to its intersection
with 16th Street;
THENCE west along 16th Street to its intersection with Sam
Houston Avenue;
THENCE south along Sam Houston Avenue to its intersection
with 19th Street;
THENCE west along 19th Street to its intersection with
Normal Park Drive;
THENCE north al.ong Normal Park Drive to its intersection
with U. S. Highway 30;
THENCE west along U. S. Highway 30 to its intersection with
the western boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE north and then east along the City boundary line to
the point of beginning.
Section 2: Council Ward Number Two is hereby redistricted
to contain the following area:
BEGINNING at the intersection of U. S. Highway 30 and the
western boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE east along U. S. Highway 30 to its intersection with
Normal Park Drive;
THENCE south along Normal Park Drive to its intersection
with 19th Street;
THENCE east along 19th Street to its intersection with Sam
Houston Avenue;
THENCE north along Sam Houston Avenue to its intersection
with 16th Street;
THENCE east along 16th Street to its intersection with
Avenue I;
THENCE south along Avenue I to its intersection with Sam
Houston Avenue;
THENCE south along Sam Houston Avenue to its intersection
with FM 1374 (Old Montgomery Road/Possum Walk Road);
THENCE southwest along FM 1374 to its intersection with the
western boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE north along the western boundary line of the City of
Huntsville to the place of beginning.
Section 3: Council Ward Number Three is hereby redistricted
to contain the following area:
BEGINNING at the intersection of 16th Street and University
Avenue;
THENCE southeast along 16th Street to its intersection with
Sycamore;
THENCE north along Sycamore to its intersection with Old
16th Street;
THENCE east along Old 16th Street to its intersection with
Avenue C;
THENCE south, east and south again along the City of
Huntsville boundary line to its intersection with Loop 405;
THENCE north along Loop 405 to its intersection with U. S.
Highway 190;
THENCE east along U. S. Highway 190 to its intersection with
the east boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE north and then west along the City boundary line to
its intersection with Rosenwall Road;
THENCE south along Rosenwall Road to its intersection with
FM 2821;
THENCE south along Smith Hill Road to its intersection with
Old Madisonville Road;
THENCE south along Old Madisonville Road to its intersection
with Tenth Street;
THENCE east along Tenth Street to its intersection with
University Avenue;
THENCE south along University Avenue to its intersection
with 16th Street (also the place of beginning).
Section 4: Council Ward Number Four is hereby redistricted
to contain the following area:
BEGINNING at the southern most intersection of FM 1374
(Possum Walk Road/Old Montgomery Road) and the western
boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE north along FM 1374 to its intersection with Sam
Houston Avenue;
THENCE northwest along Sam Houston Avenue to its
intersection with Avenue I;
THENCE north along Avenue I to its intersection with 16th
Street;
THENCE southeast along 16th Street to its intersection with
Sycamore;
THENCE north along Sycamore to its intersection with Old
16th Street;
THENCE east along Old 16th Street to its intersection with
Avenue C;
THENCE south, east and south again along the City of
Huntsville boundary line to its intersection with Loop 405;
THENCE north along Loop 405 to its intersection with U. S.
Highway 190;
THENCE east along U. S. Highway 190 to its intersection with
the east boundary line of the City of Huntsville;
THENCE south along the east boundary line of the City to its
intersection with 1-45;
THENCE north along the west boundary line of the City to its
intersection with FM 1374 (also the place of beginning).
Section 5: The City Secretary is hereby directed to delete
Section 1-13 Wards desi nated and described, from the Code
of Ordinances of the City of Huntsville, Texas.
Section 6: The map attached hereto as "Exhibit A"
accurately describes or depicts the boundary lines of City
Wards One, Two, Three and Four.
Section 7. All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in
conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby
repealed provided, however, that such repeal shall be only
to the extent of such inconsistency and in all other
respects this ordinance shall be cumulative of other
Ordinances regulating and governing the subject matter
covered by this Ordinance.
Section 8. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause,
phrase or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional, such portion shall be deemed a
separate, distinct and independent provision and such
holding shall not affect any of the remaining provisions of
this Ordinance.
Section 9. This ordinance shall take effect immediately
from and after passage.
