AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, RENAMING AND REDESIGNATING AVENUE I BETWEEN 9TH STREET
AND 11TH STREET AS SAM HOUSTON MEMORIAL DRIVE; AND MAKING
OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED THERETO.
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville wishes to establish a memorial to General
Sam Houston in the way of a street name; and
WHEREAS the area of Avenue I between 9th Street and llth Street is in
immediate vicinity of the grave of General Sam Houston which is of
historical significance to the citizens of Huntsville and the State of
Texas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Huntsville, Texas, that:
Section 1: The street known as Avenue I between 9th Street and llth Street
be renamed, redesignated and called "Sam Houston Memorial Drive ".
Section 2: The City Manager is hereby directed to erect or cause to be
erected appropriate street signs to reflect the name change.
Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after
passage.
