ORD 1987-16 -Elections Additional (.5%) Local Sales Tax 08-11-1987ORDINANCE NO. 87 -16 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION WHEREAS, there was held in the City of Huntsville, Texas, on the 8th day of August, 1987, an election at which there was submitted to all duly qualified resident electors of said City for their action thereupon, the proposition of the adoption of an additional one -half of one percent (1/2 %) local sales and use tax within the city to be used to reduce the property tax rate. WHEREAS, there was cast at said election 1137 votes, of which number there were cast: PROPOSITION FOR THE ADOPTION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE -HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2 %) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY TO BE USED TO REDUCE THE PROPERTY TAX RATE AGAINST THE ADOPTION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE -HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2 %) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY TO BE USED TO REDUCE THE PROPERTY TAX RATE 962 votes 167 votes as shown in the official election returns heretofore submitted to the City Council of said City and duly filed with the City Secretary of said City Council; and WHEREAS, the proposition was approved by 795 votes; and WHEREAS, said election was called and held in all respects under and in strict conformity with the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas and the United States of America; Now, Therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS: a Section 1: That the election held in and throughout the City of Huntsville, Texas, on the 8th day of August, 1987, which election is more particularly described in the preamble of this ordinance, was duly called and notice thereof was given and said election was held under and in strict conformity with law; that only duly qualified resident electors of said City voted at said election; that due returns of said election have been made by the proper officers; that said election has resulted in the adoption of an additional local sales and use tax within the City; and that the majority of the qualified voters voting at such election voted in favor of the adoption of an additional local sales and use tax within the City. Section 2: The City Secretary is directed to enter in the minutes this ordinance that declares the result of the election. The City Secretary is further directed to forward to the Comptroller of Public Accounts of the State of Texas by certified mail a certified copy of this ordinance. Section 3: This ordinance shall take effe t immediately.
