A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS,SUPPORTING PUBLIC NOTICES IN NEWSPAPERS.
WHEREAS the purpose of public notices is to make citizens aware of governmental
actions and intent; and
WHEREAS newspapers' readership far exceeds that of any other medium, and
newspaper readers are most likely to be involved in local civic activities and
to vote; and
WHEREAS eliminating print notice would effectively disenfranchise these citizens from
civic involvement;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas,
that:
SECTION 1: The City Council would oppose any legislation that would remove public
notices from being printed in newspapers.
SECTION 2: The City Council supports efforts that will continue to keep public notices
published in newspapers.
