ORD 1998-04 - Adopt Address Changes - Various 02-10-1998ORDINANCE NO. 98 -04
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, ADOPTING ADDRESS CHANGES FOR VARIOUS STREETS, AND
MAKING FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED THERETO.
WHEREAS the City Engineer has recommended changing various street addresses in the City in
order to facilitate mapping and emergency response to the residents and businesses of
the City; and
WHEREAS on October 15, 1996, the City Council conducted a public hearing on the proposed
street address changes; and
WHEREAS the City Engineer has considered the public comments and revised the proposed street
address changes; and
WHEREAS the City Council believes that it is in the interest of the public's health, safety and
welfare to have a consistent and reliable addressing of businesses and residences in the
City; now, therefore:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, that:
Section 1: The proposed street names and addresses shown in exhibit A, attached hereto and
made a part hereof, are hereby adopted as the official street names and addresses for
the locations indicated on that exhibit.
Section 2: The City Engineer is directed to amend all City maps to incorporate the changes
adopted by this ordinance.
Section 3: The City Manager is directed to change all street signs to incorporate the changes
adopted by this ordinance.
Section 4: This ordinance shall take effect immediately.

SUBJECT: "911" changes

The following areas were requested to be reviewed and changed to different addresses. An
attempt was made not to use addresses used in the past to prevent confusion with mail delivery
during the conversion period.
Also, there are four (4) streets that I am aware of that need to be given names, they are "Evans
Lane, Shaw Lane, Sims Lane, Louis Davis Dr. and Airport Drive ". Airport Drive was not
on our original list and I added same since I re- addressed Hwy. 75N. At the time these addresses
are approved, the dedication of the roads will be approved to their names at the same time.
Upon our last meeting we discussed with Council the roads that had more than one name and
requested that we use just one. When I came across such and if it would continue out into the
County area, I contacted Royce Adams and asked what street name they were using. Each time,
if it was a F.M. or Hwy. name.
One of the request we had from the Post Office is to change any and all addresses that have a
" 1/2" on the end of it, for example "600-1/2 ". I have in the past been changing them to be
"600A ", whenever I run across them. While doing the changes requested by City Council, I was
able to use the edit sheets from the Post Office, which are confidential, and was able to locate
many addresses that are using the " 1/2" and have added them to our list to notify for changes. It
seems not to be an issue with the land owners. As one such land owners stated, "As long as the
renter gets his mail, he did not care." When you see "ND" (No Delivery) this means that the post
office does not deliver mail to them by the physical address. They either have a P. O. Box or an
address somewhere else.
I. ELKINS LAKE AREA:
A. LAKE VIEW MANOR and GOLF VIEW MANOR: Renaming of Private Streets.
The following addresses were either out of numberical order or their house faced on Cherry Hills
Drive, but had an address that was in the back of their house. It was requested that the numbers
be corrected to give those houses that face Cherry Hills Dr. or Green Briar Dr. an address off the
appropriate street. In addition, there are six (6) private streets, three (3) with names of Lakeview
Manor and three (3) with names of Golf View Manor. We recommend renaming two (2) Lake
View Manor private streets to Lake Court and Lake View Trail and two (2) Golf View Manor
streets to Golf Trail and Golf Side.

University Avenue then going south crossing over 11th Street until you get to the end of the
addressing of same, which is located by the Sam Houston Statue. As you are aware of, the
addresses located from 22nd Street south on Sam Houston Avenue, drops down to 900 and gets
lower the further it gets until it reaches the 100 block again, then it shoots up to 20,000 block.

The numbering system given to the residents in the MTSTRIDGE, GLASS and NESTOR
SUBDIVISONS by the Post Office are out of numbering sequence. The numbers jump from
200 to 300 and then to 100 on Forest Lane, making this area inconsistent and harder to locate.
While in the Glass Subdivision, all the lots will need to be changed for the same reason of
numbers being out of order. The following list will indicate how the numbers will be assigned.
In the Westridge Subdivision, the lots are considered large and by the Development Code, are
able to be divided. Unfortunately, when this area was addressed, only one number was assigned
to the lots and if the lots were ever divided, there would not be enough addresses.

Lots with addresses of even and odd on the same side. Mr. Roy Lucas who resides on Normal
Park called upon us requesting that we resolve the problems he was having with incorrect
addresses along his street. Upon review we became aware that beginning with Mr. Lucas' house,
he has a even number (256) on an odd side of the street. Then the fourth house down from him
on the same side of Normal Park, the situation arises again, having the address of 300 Normal

XVI. BOETTCHER'S MILL AREA: Route 8
This area is known as the Boettcher's Mill area. Some have a physical addresses and some a
rural route number of 8. For one reason or another, the following streets require changes.
A. PINE STREET: Route 8
There are several streets in Huntsville that begin with "Pine" and unforntunately the street
located in the Boettcher's Mill area is the same name that is located in a subdivision that is
recorded, while Boettcher's Mill is not. After researching some of the deeds, the original name
assigned to this street was Pine Street from Mr. Boettcher. While driving the route, many of the
residents who live on other streets, have their boxes are on Boettcher Mill Road.
The Post Office has this street designated as "Pines Avenue". A Pines Avenue already exists in
the County and by our records, this street should be "Pine Street". Also, several of the residents
have their mail boxes located on Boettcher's Mill Road and reside on "Pine Street". All residents
with a Pines Avenue address will be changed to show the correct title of the road.
