ORD 2002-03 - Uniform Date Board and Commissions 01-22-2002ORDINANCE NO. 2002-03 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING A UNIFORM DATE FOR THE COMMENCEMENT AND EXPIRATION OF TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville has many boards and commissions with the terms of members of the boards and commissions starting and ending at various times during the year; and WHEREAS, it is difficult for the City to monitor the terms of various members of the boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, the City is desirous of establishing a uniform date for the commencement and expiration of terms to its boards and commissions in order to simplify the process of appointing or reappointing members to the various boards and commissions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, that: SECTION 1: Beginning with the calendar year 2002, all terms of members of the various boards and commissions of the City of Huntsville, Texas, will expire on August 31, and the terms of members appointed or reappointed to boards and commissions during the calendar year 2002 will commence on September 1. For example, if the current term of a member of a board or commission expires on April 30, 2002, the term will be extended and expire on August 31, 2002. If a current term of a member of a board or commission expires on October 31, 2002, the term will be shortened to expire on August 31, 2002. The term expiration date of all members of boards and commissions will be extended or shortened as necessary in the year in which the term expires in order to comply with the requirement of having a term expire on August 31. Notwithstanding the above provision, a member of a board or commission whose term has expired will continue to serve until his/her successor is duly appointed and qualified to serve as a board/commission member. SECTION 2: If any portion of this Ordinance shall, for any reason, be declared invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining provisions hereof and the City Council determines that it would have adopted this Ordinance without the invalid provision. SECTION 3: This Ordinance shall take effective immediately from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 22W DAY OF JANUARY 2002. CITY OF HUNT ILL TEXAS William B.
