MIN CC 03/10/1992CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 10, 1992 BOOK 'R' 31 MINUTES OF THE HUNTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON THE 10TH DAY OF MARCH, 1992 IN THE CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM, LOCATED AT 1212 AVENUE M IN THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, COUNTY OF WALKER, TEXAS AT 5:30 P.M. The Council met in a regular session with the following members present: W. H. Hodges, Mayor Officers: Gary Bell William H. Knotts, Jr. Gene Pipes, City Manager Ila G. Gaines Ronald L. Lange Scott Bounds, City Attorney William B. Green Dan S. Davis Melba Byers, City Secretary Charles Robinson ABSENT: James L Carter CITIZEN INPUTIINQU1RY Mayor Hodges called the meeting to order and asked if anyone would like to make any comments in this portion of the meeting. There were no comments. REGULAR SESSION - CALL TO ORDER After a brief recess, Mayor Hodges called the meeting back to ord rr. CONSIDER MINUTES OF MARCH 3, 1992 Councilmember Gaines made the motion to approve the minutes of March 3. 1992. and Councilmember Robinson 1 seconded the motion. NOTE: Councilmember Carter was absent. Councilmember Davis stated that it was his understanding that the Council made a recommendation to City Staff for further study on the request for speed limit change on Lake Road, and that findings be presented to Council at the next council meeting on March 31, '1992. Councilmember Bell stated fiat it was his understanding that the requested speed limit change was 35 MPH Instead of 40 MPH. Councilmember Davis asked that the minutes read, 'council requests further study by City staff, that the requested speed limit be 35 MPH instead of 40 MPH, and that City Staff report back to Council with findings for appropriate action at the next city council meeting.' Councilmember Davis stated in regard to the Wild Flowers' issue, there was a consensus that we have a 'spring' season policy on not mowing wild flowers. He felt the more appropriate wording would be 'not mowing the City rightof -ways' instead of 'rat mowing the wild flowers'. Mayor Hodges then asked if there were any other changes or corrections There wer_ none. Mayor Hodges then asked all in favor of approving the minutes, with corrections, so state. The note i passed unanimously. Councilmember Green was welcomed back and sympathy expressed due to the passing away of his mother. The Mayor reminded Council that Thursday, March 12, 1992 is the Chamber of Commerce Trade Expo at the Walker County Fair Grounds. The City will have a booth which needs to a manned. The City will be giving away approximately 3000 trees. The Mayor nominated Councilmember Knotts to serve on a Uaison Committee of City Council to the Tourism Bureau. Councilmember Knotts would be replacing Councilmember Bell on this committee. Councilmember Bell made a motion to approve this appointment, seconded by Councilmember Davis. The motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Knots abstained from voting. WORK SESSION: LANDFILL SALVAGING SERVICE The Council discussed proposals for landfill salvaging service and related solid waste management matters. The minutes of the 'Work Session' are taped ONLY. ADJOURNMENT
