The City of Huntsville will conduct multiple recycling cart audits during the months of September and October in
an effort to improve curbside recycling.
According to Carol Reed, Public Works Director, customers who are not currently in compliance with City
recycling methods may have their blue carts collected during the course of the audits.
"With curbside recycling activated throughout the City of Huntsville, we want to continue to work with our
residents to ensure we get the highest yield from the program as possible," Reed said. "The more our residents
recycle, the less garbage we're transporting to an off-site landfill, and that translates to savings for the entire city.
"To this end, the City will be conducting a recycling audit wherein carts not in compliance with recycling

Reed said the goal following the audits will be to provide residents with the information they need to stay in
compliance with the City's recycling guidelines.
"During the last few months, we have initiated the 'Greener Huntsville: Easy Recycling' campaign, wherein we are
using public meetings, social media and more to get recycling information in the hands of our residents," Reed
said. "We will hold our first 'Greener Huntsville' curbside recycling guideline meeting on September 25 at 6 p.m.
at the Huntsville Public Library.
"We plan to hold quarterly meetings to allow interested residents to get a renewed understanding of our curbside
recycling policies and methods. We want our residents to benefit from the program and be able to integrate
recycling into their daily routines, and we hope these sessions will give them the knowledge and answers they
need."
