WHEREAS The 2008-09 Huntsville Hornet Varsity Basketball Team had an outstanding season under the guidance and direction of Head Coach Larry Carlson, Assistant
Coaches Jay Oliphant, Rick Burns and Patrick Bricker; and
WHEREAS The Hornet’s record for regular season play was 27 and 8. The team advanced to the Regional Tournament for the 2nd
time in 3 years, playing a total of 4 playoff games; and
WHEREAS They went undefeated in District play (14-0) for the 2nd consecutive season with this being their 3rd consecutive
district title having a district record of 37-1 the past three seasons; and
WHEREAS The 2008-09 Varsity Basketball Roster included: Marvin Dunbar#3, Tabias McGowan #5, Justin Gilbert
#10, Lonny Lipscomb #13, Justin Ennis # 15, George Perry #23, Marcus Murray #24, Jeremy LaDay #25, Marcus Irving #30, Johnny Walker #34, Jason Nwisienyi #40, Chris Blanks #45, Andrew
Nichols #50 and Kirby Ennis # 55 and Managers Titus Powell and Jaquille Reed; and
WHEREAS Many of the players have distinguished themselves in receiving 2009 District 18-4A Basketball
Awards; and
WHEREAS Senior, Justin Ennis #15 earned the District MVP Award, Region III – All Region Team, Class 4A All State Team; and Academic All-State
WHEREAS Senior, George
Perry #23 earned the District Defensive MVP award and Academic All-State; and
WHEREAS Senior Kirby Ennis #55 earned 1st Team All District; and
WHEREAS Junior, Justin Gilbert #10,
Junior Jeremy LaDay #25 and Senior Marcus Irving #30 and Andrew Nichols #50 earned 2nd Team All District. Additionally Andrew Nichols also received Academic-All State; and
WHEREAS Overall
the team finished the 2008-09 season ranked 12th in Class 4A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches; and
WHEREAS Coach Larry Carlson was awarded Coach of the Year for District
18-4A; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that

be declared as :

BASKETBALL DAY”
in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas and hereby congratulate and recognize the 2008-09 Huntsville Hornet Varsity Basketball team and coaching staff for their outstanding
performance and achievements throughout the season.
