06-tx_independence_day PROCLAMATION 2009-06 WHEREAS March 2nd is officially designated and recognized as General Sam Houston’s Birthday as well as Texas Independence Day; and WHEREAS Annually the Walker County Historical Commission, Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Sam Houston Statue & Visitors Center schedule, coordinate and host a variety of speakers and events at multiple locations throughout Huntsville in commemoration and celebration of these events; and WHEREAS This year, an additional special event is included in the day’s events - the dedication and unveiling of the Margaret Moffette Lea Houston marker at the Woodland Home as well as the grand opening of the Margaret Moffette Lea Houston Exhibit at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that, in addition to General Sam Houston’s Birthday and Texas Independence Day, March 2, 2009 be designated as: “Margaret Moffette Lea Houston Day” in Huntsville, Texas, in recognition of the marker dedication and exhibit grand opening.
