Upon investigation it was determined that a murder had occurred. Earlier in the afternoon of 08/22/14 a domestic incident had occurred in which Ray Charles Smith, DOB 11/28/52, was determined to be the aggressor. The officers with the Huntsville Police Department responded to the incident; however, Mr. Smith had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. The responding officers conducted a search of the area in an attempt to locate Mr. Smith but were unsuccessful. Approximately an hour later, officers responded to the shooting call in the 1400 block of Sycamore. Mr. Smith had been shot multiple times. Walker County EMS had been called to the scene as well and made every effort to save Mr. Smith but he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. Huntsville Police Department detectives were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. It was determined that after the domestic incident Mr. Smith obtained a ride to the area of the 800 block of MLK Blvd. Once arriving in the area of the 800 block of MLK Blvd., Mr. Smith was confronted by Garius O'Bryant, DOB 05/ 26/95, and Joyce O'Bryant, DOB 06/13/45. Shortly thereafter shots were fired at Mr. Smith, striking him multiple times. Mr. Smith retreated to the vehicle in which he had been in and the driver drove him to the 1400 block of Sycamore where police were notified of the shooting. Garius O'Bryant and Joyce O'Bryant fled the scene. During the investigation of the offense, Joyce O'Bryant was located and transported to the Huntsville Police Department for questioning. As a result of the investigation by members of the Huntsville Police Department and the Texas Rangers, warrants were issued for the arrest of Joyce O'Bryant and Garius O'Bryant for the charge of murder. Joyce O'Bryant was taken into custody and transported to the Walker County Jail. Garius O'Bryant has yet to be taken into custody and officers are actively searching for him. Joyce O'Bryant was released from the Walker County Jail on 08/ 23/14 on a $75,000 bond. Murder is a l st degree felony and carries a possible punishment of 5 years to 99 years imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a possible fine not to exceed $10,000.
