Proc. 2009-07 Sam Houston State Collegiate Veterans Day 03-17-09
PROCLAMATION 2009-07
WHEREAS Founded in January 2008, Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a coalition of
student veterans groups from college campuses across the United States; and
WHEREAS The three primary missions of SVA are: (1) to develop student veteran groups on
college and university campuses and coordinate by region between existing groups;
(2) to connect student groups with resources; and (3) to advocate on behalf of
student veterans at the state and national level; and
WHEREAS The newly formed Sam Houston State Collegiate Veterans Association is a
recognized chapter of SVA. The chapter was founded by a group of OIF and OEF
veterans both prior service and reserve; and
WHEREAS The Sam Houston State CVA strives to help all current and incoming veterans
transition into the college environment through involvement in various types of
activities such as intramural sports, community events and other school activities;
and
WHEREAS Officers for the Sam Houston State CVA are: Jeremy Williams, President, Curt
Burton, Vice President, Wade Dixon, Secretary, Andy Wallander, Treasurer and
Maira Mejia, Historian.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
March 17, 2009
be designated as:
“Sam Houston State Collegiate Veterans Day”
in Huntsville, Texas.
