Proclamation N0. 2021-30
WHEREAS Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church was established in the year 1865, which is believed to have happened soon after the Emancipation Proclamation was read in Galveston Texas
on June 19, 1865, by Major General Gordon Granger; and
WHEREAS Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church was established in a community called Hormones Grove where many former slaves had settled. In 1985, the church was able to move to its present
location at 217 Geneva Rd. in Huntsville, Texas.; and
WHEREAS The Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church has been a pillar of the New Addition Community and under many Shepherds. We give gratitude that God sent someone to step in and help
lead his people through trying times. D.W. Hunts who served until 1975, Andrew Isaac who served from 1975-1999, Donnie Tubbs Sr. who served from 1999-2019; and our current Pastor,
Pastor Samuel Dominique who was installed on May 31, 2020, and was a light in the tunnel as the world dealt with a deadly virus known as COVID-19.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that

be designated as: Good Hope Missionary
Baptist Church Day
in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to join in recognition and appreciation for the members, past and present, of this congregation on this special day.
