Proc. 2021-28 - Trinity River Food Bank Proclamation N0. 2021-28 WHEREAS hunger is a significant issue of grave concern across the United States and the State of Texas. National Hunger Action Month is a Feeding America effort to raise awareness about the hunger epidemic in the United States and to encourage individuals to take action in some form against hunger; and WHEREAS Trinity River Food Bank started working with the Houston Food Bank in 2014 as a small food pantry. As food insecurities increased in rural East Texas communities, they became a hub for the Houston Food bank to help build and strengthen a network of partners who would help feed people across a four-county area ; and WHEREAS As efforts to fight hunger increased, the small food pantry became the Trinity River Food Bank in 2020 which is responsible for all food distributions in Walker, Liberty, Trinity, and San Jacinto countries. Currently there are 38 partners across the four-county span that help feed the hunger every day; and WHEREAS Trinity River Food Bank brings health and hope to communities by taking a holistic approach to food banking. Their focus is to better serve the community by improving access to nutritious food and providing correspondent programs and services that help clients reach long-term stability; and WHEREAS Trinity River Food Bank understands that hunger is just one indication of poverty and strive to identify and address each symptom with the hope that they are empowering the community and change lives. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: September 21, 2021 be declared: TRINITY RIVER FOOD BANK DAY in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage all citizens to take action in the fight against hunger.
