Proclamation No. 2023-36
WHEREAS Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been in existence serving communities across the country since 1913 and serving the Huntsville community for fifty years beginning with their chapter
at Sam Houston State University in 1973; and
WHEREAS Delta Sigma Theta Sorority partners and provides support to several organizations in the Huntsville community, including Huntsville ISD by supporting the school lunch program
and working with the school personnel to address deficiencies in reading literacy; and
WHEREAS in 2024 the Huntsville Alumnae Chapter will grow their services to our community by beginning a holistic approach to educational success. This program will be the College is
FUNdamental workshop creating a way to prepare high school students and first-generation college students for their college career; and
WHEREAS Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will continue to grow in their community support by focusing on education, economic development, political involvement, and international awareness.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Russell Humphrey, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, do hereby proclaim,
