Proclamation No. 2023-34
WHEREAS The Huntsville Main Street Program nominated The Café Texan under the Best Rehab/Restoration category for the 2023 Texas Downtown President’s Awards; and
WHEREAS The Café Texan was announced as the winner on Wednesday, October 25th at the President’s Awards Gala, held in Nacogdoches; and
WHEREAS The Café Texan has been the longest family owned and operated cafe in Texas as it opened its doors on the downtown square of Huntsville in 1936; and
WHEREAS Vance Howard purchased The Café Texan in 2020 with the intent to use the space to create a space for offices, a café, and a museum; and
WHEREAS The Café Texan strives to preserve history, give back to the community, and honor those who charted the path before us; and
WHEREAS The rehabilitation and restoration of The Café Texan has preserved it’s legacy and fostered community engagement and pride.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, on this 21st day of November 2023, extend this Proclamation with sincere congratulations and recognition to
