Proclamation No. 2023-29 Kyle Dockery and John French Day City of Huntsville Proclamation No. 2023-29 WHEREAS Huntsville Police Department Sergeant Kyle Dockery and Corporal John French, having been colleagues and friends for more than twenty years, share a profound bond, forged through the shared experience of risking their lives for one another; and WHEREAS on October 12th, 2023, Sergeant Dockery, Corporal French, and several other Huntsville Police Department Officers responded to a person with a weapon at a local apartment complex in Huntsville, Texas; and WHEREAS they swiftly approached the area and discovered that the suspect had entered an apartment; and WHEREAS they engaged the individual at the door to check on his well-being and investigate his reported actions; and WHEREAS during this encounter, the armed subject fired upon the officers, resulting in both Sergeant Dockery and Corporal French being struck, Sergeant Dockery critically; and WHEREAS the armed individual was incapacitated and Corporal French promptly initiated life-saving efforts on his brother officer; and WHEREAS due to the combined efforts of the Huntsville Police Officers, Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers, Sam Houston State University Police Officers, Walker County Constables, Walker County Emergency Medical Services Personnel and Huntsville Fire Department Personnel, Sergeant Dockery was swiftly transported from the scene for successful medical treatment; and WHEREAS their courage and valor safeguarded the lives of their fellow officers and the citizens of Huntsville; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, do hereby proclaim, October 12, 2023, as KYLE DOCKERY AND JOHN FRENCH DAY
