Proclamation No. 2023-23 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclamation No. 2023-23 WHEREAS Domestic violence violates privacy, dignity, security, and humanity of the abused and the family, friends, and community of the abused; and WHEREAS Domestic violence problems are not confined to any group or groups of people, but cut across all economic, racial, and societal barriers, and are supported by societal indifferences; and WHEREAS Domestic violence happens to one in four women and one in nine men; and WHEREAS Domestic violence impacts individuals, society, the Huntsville community, and even the worldwide; and WHEREAS Domestic violence survivors have been at the forefront of efforts to bring peace and equality to the home, although it will take a community effort with strong leadership to help bring a stop to domestic violence; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, urge all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs to work towards eradicating domestic violence, improving victim safety, and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable for their actions. DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the month of October 2023 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month
