This complimentary program promotes emergent reading skills for young children. Story Hour includes stories, “Sugar songs, dance and finger plays and concludes with a craft activity. The theme for December 11th will be Plums and Dum Dums” with activities focused around wintery sweets. Family Movie Night Series Huntsville Public Library in partnership with Texas Children’s Health Plan is offering a free monthly family night movie. For December, the library will continue movie series with a blockbuster kid friendly Christmas movie on Thursday, December 12th at 5:30 PM . Stop by the library to pick up your free tickets. All movies are rated PG or G. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Winter Holidays Around the World is a free program that will explore highlight the multi-cultural element of Christmas and other winter holidays in various countries. Children will create a passport to be stamped as they learn about new holiday games, crafts, and various activities of different cultures. The world tour will end with a visit and free photo with Santa Claus. This event is sponsored by the Huntsville Public Library Friends and Kroger’s. Who Let the Dogs Out?.....at the library! 1 The Huntsville Public Library will host the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program on Monday th December 16 from 4:00-5:30 PM afternoon, . The R.E.A.D program improves children’s reading skills by employing a powerful method, reading to a registered therapy dog, in a relaxed, safe, non-judgmental rd environment. This program will continue every 3 Monday of the month. Registration is recommended. The theme for this year’s contest is “Inspired by Books”. Students are encouraged to submit creative interpretations of favorite children’s books to be enlarged, framed, and displayed in the Children’s Room of the Huntsville Public Library. This contest is open to all children and teens 5-18 years of age. All entries must be delivered on 8 ½ X 11 white paper, along with an entry form, to the Friday January 10th, 2014 at 6:00 PM Huntsville Public Library by . Entry forms are available at www.myhuntsvillelibrary.com. Entries will be judged by a panel of community members and 12 winners will be announced at the official Artwork Unveiling Ceremony on Saturday February 22nd 2014. Winning artwork will be exhibited in the Children’s Room Art Gallery of the Huntsville Public Library for one year.
