Press Release - 12/4/2013 - Weekend severe weather Lee Woodward From:Kristin Edwards Sent:Wednesday, December 04, 2013 4:57 PM Subject:Weather advisory for Thursday, November 5 through weekend - press release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – SHSU – Slide on Channel 7, please Huntsville Item – Please add to Best Bets as appropriate IT – Please add to Facebook and Twitter Thanks, Kristin Edwards, TRMC Deputy City Secretary The City of Huntsville and Walker County Offices of Emergency Management would like to ask all residents to stay mindful of potential inclement weather beginning tomorrow, December 5, and continuing through the weekend. According to Lance Wood, a Science Operations Officer with the National Weather Service, a strong cold front will be moving through southeast Texas tomorrow with much colder temperatures during the following days. “There will be a good chance of rain across the southeast Texas area from Thursday night through Friday,” Wood said Wednesday afternoon. “The rain will likely become more intermittent and light by Friday evening, but when combined with temperatures falling to below freezing across northwest areas, this could produce some ice accumulation, especially on bridges and elevated structures. “There is the potential of additional icing occurring on Saturday and into Sunday morning across these same areas, and we will be looking closer at this possibility tomorrow when we will have more confidence on the weekend precipitation pattern and amounts.” Huntsville Police Department Lt. Jim Barnes emphasized caution on the part of all drivers, especially those planning to take part in local events scheduled for Saturday. “Any time there is ice on the roadway, you always want to allow yourself more time to reach your destination, and you want to try to drive a few miles per hour slower than under normal circumstances,” he said. “We will provide updated weather information as soon as it is available.” For more information, contact City of Huntsville EMC John Waldo at (936) 291-5945 or Walker County EMC Butch Davis at (936) 435-2400.
