Proclamation No. 2023-3
WHEREAS, distracted driving is an epidemic on our roadways, claiming thousands of lives and injuring hundreds of thousands each year in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, informing drivers of the dangers of cell phone use and other distractions while operating a motor vehicle is essential to reducing distraction-related fatalities and injuries;
and
WHEREAS, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted driving as “any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone…”;
and
WHEREAS, increased awareness about the dangers of distracted driving may reduce traffic fatalities and injuries in Texas and the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, the 4th Annual Pineapple Run and Driving Safety Fair in Huntsville Texas, focuses on activities reducing distracted driving and raising awareness; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM April 1-30, 2023, as
APRIL 2023 NATIONAL DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH
