Proclamation No. 2022-17
WHEREAS, Douglass Norman Wall is honored by friends and relatives on this occasion of his 85th birthday, July 23, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Doug was born in Yoakum, Texas on July 23, 1937. He grew up poor right after the Depression and knew at an early age he wanted to attend college to better himself financially.
He worked hard to pay for college and in 1960 he graduated from Lamar Tech with a BBA. He was the first in his family to graduate college; and
WHEREAS, Doug married Donna Ruth Smith in 1959 and the couple was blessed with 2 children, Denise, and Don, after 29 years of marriage the couple divorced. In 1991 Doug married Barbara
Johnson Brown and was gifted with 2 more children, Tammy, and Tony; and
WHEREAS, Doug was recruited by Texaco, Inc. and was employed with them for 37 years in a variety of accounting and management positions. His employees praised him often for being one
of the best bosses they had ever had. However, his career never defined him, he believed it to be the financial means to do the things he enjoyed the most; and
WHEREAS, Doug and Barbara decided they wanted to be closer to their kids and grandkids so after many years of living in several other states and visiting, 48 of the 50 states, they decided
to settle in Huntsville, Texas in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Doug and Barbara have always shared interests in serving their church, watching sports, biking, hiking, cross country skiing, playing golf, DIY projects gardening (Yard of the
Month winner), and traveling; and
WHEREAS, Doug and Barbara have always cherish their time with family. They enjoy most family gatherings and traditions and especially visits with the grandkids and great grandkids.
Doug is a quiet, gentle man, a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He is a man of integrity!
