Proclamation No2022-13 National Day of Prayer Proclamation No. 2022-13 WHEREAS throughout the history of our nation, in times of plenty, in days of scarcity, in periods of joy, and in moments of sorrow, many have turned to prayer, reaching out to a higher being for courage, for guidance to give thanks and to seek solace; and WHEREAS the first Continental Congress called for a National Day or Prayer in 1775 and President Abraham Lincoln called for a National Day of Prayer in 1863; and WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer was established as an official annual day of observance in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The law was amended in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan to establish the first Thursday of every May as the National Day of Prayer; and WHEREAS at this important time in our nation’s history, we pray for the brave members of our Armed Forces and their families, we pray for their safety, for the recovery of the wounded and for the peace we all seek; and WHEREAS the 2022 National Day of Prayer provides an opportunity to pray for our nation, its people and its leaders while honoring the commitment to religious liberty and tolerance that contributes to our continued strength; and WHEREAS there is power in prayer, we can find hope and comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM May 5, 2022 as National Day of Prayer
