From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 7, the Main Street program will offer the annual Downtown Christmas Fair, which will include a play area filled with snow, a train ride, food and craft vendors, games, entertainment and more. On the same day, the Parks and Leisure Department will hold Winter in the Park from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Rather Park, located at University Avenue and 13 Street. The event will include arts and crafts, children’s activities, winter treats and of course, th letters to Santa. “We’re excited to host a large-scale holiday event in the downtown area,” said Ariel Traub with the Main Street program. “With two departments coming together and combining their resources, we hope to provide a fun day for the whole family.” Traub said several special guests will stop by the Downtown Christmas Fair, including an ice princess, an elf on stilts and more, all of whom will be posing for family photo opportunities. “We’ll be offering many entertainment options at the fair, and admission is completely free,” she said. “The only ticketed features will be the snow area and the train ride, and a ticket for both will cost $1. “Groups from the Faye Burns Dance Studio, Prime Time Dance Studio, Studio C Dance and the League of United Latin American Citizens will also be offering dance and musical performances.” Winter in the Park – which will also be offered free of charge – will have moon bounces for both young children and older youth, a face painter, arts and crafts, an ice cream cone decorating contest and an opportunity to write a letter to Santa. “We’re going to take over Rather Park with fun activities for the whole family,” said Natalie Reid with the Parks and Leisure Department. “We want to get as many kids out as possible, because at the end of the event, we’re going to take handprints from all of our young participants, make a wreath, and hang it in City Hall for the rest of the season.” For more information on the Downtown Christmas Fair, contact Traub at (936) 291-5920.
