Proclamation 2021-10 - Texas Week - 2/23/2021 P roclamation No. 2021-10 WHEREAS Article 6144(a) of the Texas Revised Civil Statutes sets apart annually nd the entire week in which Texas Independence Day, March 2, occurs, as “Texas Week”; and WHEREAS the Republic of Texas was born on March 2, 1836, when delegates from throughout what was the Mexican Department of Texas convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence; and WHEREAS from the fall of 1835 to spring 1836, Texans of all backgrounds came together to fight for liberty and better government, enduring hardship and defeat, most notably at the Alamo and Goliad; and WHEREAS our community recognizes Texan and American hero General Sam Houston, who was born on March 2, and helped assure this onetime sovereign nation of its victory. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: March 1-5, 2021 be declared: Texas Week in the city of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to exalt and extol the determination of Texan forces in 1836 and the continued significance of March 2 and Texas Week in #HomeSweetHuntsville. rd PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 23 day of February 2021. ____ __________________ Andy Brauninger, Mayor
