Proclamation 2021-08 - Shaniquwa Cox Harrison Day - 12/15/2020 P roclamation N0. 2021-08 WHEREAS Shaniquwa Dawn Cox Harrison is a shining example of an individual that goes the Extra Mile for #HomeSweetHuntsville. She is the daughter of A.L. Cox and Willia Kaye Kendricks Cox and will celebrate her birthday on January 12; and WHEREAS She was the first black woman to be named Huntsville Homecoming Queen in 1983; she graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1988 with a bachelor’s in fine arts; and attended the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in 1995; and WHEREAS Shaniquwa met and married the love of her life Donnie Harrison on December 16, 2006, and has three beautiful daughters, Kailyn Goodman, Alexys Goodman, and Brittney Williams, and one precious grandson, Chazton Williams; and WHEREAS She has been the owner, along with her husband, since 1995 but didn't become the sole owner until 1999 when her father passed. The Better Business Bureau reports that Cox Funeral Home has been in business since 1938; and WHEREAS Shaniquwa is a very unique person, making her more than a funeral home director - she has a caring, loving, and giving heart. She doesn't mind helping anyone in need of burying a loved one. She is also a member of the Alpha kappa Alpha Sorority, but more importantly she is a woman of God.
