WHEREAS Willie Jerry Jones, Sr. was a lifetime resident of Huntsville, first making his home in our
city in 1925; and
WHEREAS Willie Jerry Jones, Sr. served in the United States Navy and was a World War II veteran;
and
WHEREAS Willie Jerry Jones, Sr. was the owner of several Huntsville businesses including a barber
shop, a beauty shop, and the Willie Jerry Jones, Sr. Insurance and Bail Bond Agency; and
WHEREAS Through serving as the president of the Walker and Trinity County branches of the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Jones contributed to the
achievement and success of countless fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS According to his granddaughter, Jennifer Jones, he was a very kind and giving man who
helped everyone he knew;
NOW THEREFORE, RE IT HERESYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville, and I call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of this
