Proc. 2010-13 Huntsville Cultural District Day 11-12-09PROCLAMATION N0,a 2010-13 WHEREAS the City of Huntsville works in cultural partnerships with local businesses and organizations, artists, museums, and educational entities including Sam Houston State University and Huntsville Independent School District; and WHEREAS the Huntsville City Council has supported the request to the Texas Commission on the Arts for a cultural district in Huntsville, with the historic downtown at the core; and WHEREAS the Cultural District will be anchored by the Eastham- Thomason Park, Oakwood Cemetery, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, the Samuel Walker Houston Cultural Center, the Wynne Home Arts Center and other significant Huntsville landmarks; and WHEREAS the Huntsville Cultural District can enhance economic activity and development, spur public investment, develop tourism, complement other public and private redevelopment efforts, create interest inside and outside the community, and provide a unified vision for the arts, culture, and entertainment in Huntsville; and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Huntsville desires to support and participate in the development and governance of the new Huntsville Cultural District, NOW, THEREFORE, BE TTHEREBYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: November 12, 2009 be declared: "Huntsville Cultural District Day" in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of this monumental achievement and to acknowledge its special meaning to our community.
