Proc. 2015-19 Dessie Cherry Day 02-19-15 PROCLAMATION NO. 2015-19 WHEREAS since beginning her graduate studies at Sam Houston State University under the mentorship of the late Dr. George Beto and becoming employed with the Texas Department of Correction, Mrs. Dessie Cherry has been an integral part of the community; and WHEREAS she has come to attention as a tireless volunteer and local leader through her participation with the City of Huntsville Youth Advisory Board, the SAAFE House, Red Cross, the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County, and in support of HISD in the Chamber of Commerce’s Promoting Our Positives group; and WHEREAS Dessie and her husband Lawrence have been dedicated members of the Greater Zion Baptist Church, and raised two strong sons in Huntsville, exemplifying Dessie’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of children throughout the area; and WHEREAS there were many deserving nominees this year, highlighting Dessie Cherry’s exceptional example as a volunteer in and advocate for our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: February 19, 2015 be declared: “Dessie Cherry Day” in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to recognize Dessie Cherry’s contributions to make Huntsville a better place to live, through love, outreach, and ethics. th PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 19 day of February 2015. __ __________________ Mac Woodward, Mayor
