Proc. 2014-37 National Tourism Week 05-03-11-14 PROCLAMATION NO. 2014-37 WHEREAS travel to and within the United States provide significant benefits for the nation, and contribute to personal growth, education, cultural understanding and enhancement of America’s image around the world; and WHEREAS the travel industry is among the largest private-sector employers in the U.S., supporting 14.6 million jobs in 2012, including 7.7 million directly in the travel industry and 6.9 million in other industries; and WHEREAS travelers’ spending directly generated tax revenues of $129 billion for federal, state, and local governments, funds used to support essential services and programs; and WHEREAS Huntsville/Walker County direct travel impact for visitor spending is $96,110.000; local tax receipts equal $1,080.000; and travel generates 940 jobs for the Huntsville/Walker County area; and WHEREAS leisure travel, which accounts for more than three-quarters of all trips taken in the United States as well as in Huntsville and Walker County, spurs countless benefits to travelers’ creativity, cultural awareness, education, happiness, productivity, relationships, and wellness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: May 3-11, 2014 be declared: NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in this special observance by enjoying all the special events and sites that draw others to visit our community. th PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 6 day of May 2014. __________________ Mac Woodward, Mayor
