Proc. 2014-18 National Engineers Week 02-16-22-14 PROCLAMATION NO. 2014-18 WHEREAS engineers have helped build our nation since its founding, including George Washington, who conducted engineering activities such as surveying and mapping wilderness territories; and WHEREAS engineers have built the foundation for progress and development and contributed greatly to society by turning ideas into reality, facing the major technological challenges of our time – from rebuilding towns devastated by natural disasters to revolutionizing our infrastructure; and WHEREAS these dedicated members of the profession represent many different disciplines, from Aerospace Engineers to Transportation Engineers, and are instrumental in building and maintaining the systems and infrastructure that protect our health and safety, restore and protect our environment, and contribute to our economic future; and WHEREAS National Engineers Week was established in 1951 to help increase public understanding of the engineering profession. to recognize the critical work that the more than 1.6 million engineers in this country do, celebrate engineering technology and innovation, and cultivate interest in math, science and engineering among the nation’s youth – tomorrow’s work force. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: February 16-22, 2014 be declared: “National Engineers Week” in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to join in National Engineers Week activities and share engineering with children and young people. th PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this 18 day of February 2014. ___ _________________ Mac Woodward, Mayor
