AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5 -4, 5 -5, 5 -8
AND 5 -9 OF CHAPTER 5 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, BY DELETING
CERTAIN TERMINOLOGY WITHIN SUCH SECTION AND
INSERTING IN LIEU THEREOF TERMINOLOGY AUTHO-
RIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO MAKE APPOINT-
MENTS TO THE AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT OF THE
CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, BY CHANGING THE QUALIFI-
CATIONS OF APPLICANT FOR APPOINTMENT, AUTHO-
RIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO AUTHORIZE THE
UNIFORM, AND BY AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE
TO EXPEL FROM MEMBERSHIP MEMBERS OF SUCH AUXILIARY
POLICE UNIT FOR GOOD CAUSE SHOWN, AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Huntsville, Texas, that Section 5 -4, 5 -5, 5 -8, and 5 -9 of Chapter
5, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Huntsville be amended
so that hereafter such section shall read as follows:
Section 5 -4. Temporary Appointments- Generally.
A person meeting the qualifications set out in
Section 5 -5 and desiring to become a member of the
Auxiliary Police Unit may apply for and receive a
temporary appointment from the Chief of Police of
the City of Huntsville.
Section 5 -5. Same- Qualifications of Applicant.
An applicant for temporary appointment to the
Auxiliary Police Unit shall possess the same quali-
fications as an applicant for appointment to the
regular Police Department of the City of Huntsville,
Texas, as established or changed from time to time
by the City of Huntsville, Texas.
Section 5 -8. Police Authority; Uniform.
The members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall have
and exercise no police authority unless called into
active duty as described in this chapter, but may,
while in training and thereafter and with permission
of the Chief of Police, wear and adopt a uniform
and insignia approved by the Chief of Police of the
City of Huntsville. When called into active duty, the
members shall have and exercise general police duties,
authority and privileges, subject to the control
and designation by the Chief of Police.
Section 5-9. Expulsion from Membership.
A member of the Auxiliary Police Unit may be expelled
from membership by the Chief of Police of the City
of Huntsville for good cause shown.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this Ordinance shall take
effect from and after its passage.
PASSED IN OPEN SESSION on 1st reading this the 10th
