POLICE TO ENFORCE THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS AND THE CITY
OF HUNTSVILLE ON CERTAIN STREETS WITHIN THE SAID CITY AS PEACE
OFFICERS, DESIGNATING SUCH AREAS AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Sam Houston State University Campus Police are
designated peace officers under the laws of the State of Texas, and
as such, have authority to enforce the laws of the State of Texas,
upon the campus of Sam Houston State University and other areas as
under the law provided; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntsville,
Texas, deems it appropriate to further authorize said Sam Houston
State University Campus Police to enforce City ordinances and to
confirm authorization already either expressly or impliedly indi-
cated in the statutes of the State of Texas for such Campus Police
to enforce the laws of the State of Texas within the said City and
in cooperation with officials of Sam Houston State University to
further designate and define areas to be specifically patroled by
said Campus Police.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE BE
ENACTED AND EFFECTIVE FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE.
Section 1. That Sam Houston State University Campus
Police shall in all things be vested with authority as peace officers
to enforce the laws of the State of Texas and the City of Huntsville,
Texas, within the said City of Huntsville, Texas, and specifically
in the following defined areas:
Avenue J from 15th Street to 22nd Street
Avenue I from 16th Street to Avenue H, intersection
Avenue H from 16th Street to Avenue I, intersection
17th Street from Avenue H to Avenue M
Avenue 0 from 17th Street to 19th Street
19th Street from Avenue M to Sam Houston Avenue
Sam Houston Avenue from 17th Street to 22nd Street
22nd Street from Avenue J to Avenue N -1/2
College Farm Road from 22nd Street to Interstate 45
20th Street from Sam Houston Avenue to Avenue H
21st Street from Sam Houston Avenue to Avenue J
19 -1/2 Street from Avenue I to Avenue H
15th Street from Avenue J to Avenue K (University Ave.)
Avenue K (University Ave.) from 15th Street to 17th Street
Section 2: Be it further ordained by the said City Council
of the said City of Huntsville, Texas, that the said City Council
recognizes Sam Houston State University Campus Police as
peace officers as that term is defined under the laws of the
State of Texas and that the within ordinance shall not be
deemed to limit or otherwise diminish the authority of said
peace officers as authorized by any statute of the State of
Texas or any regulation issued by the Board of Regents of Sam
Houston State University.
