PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-31
WHEREAS audiologists locally and nationwide observe and celebrate Better Hearing Month
each year in May, highlighting their education and health care services to
citizens; and
WHEREAS today we recognize and honor the efforts of all who work to eliminate or
minimize the isolating effects of communication disorders in the one in five
families affected by them; and
WHEREAS more than half of the people with hearing loss are below age 65, and hearing loss
is the third most common health issue in the United States; and
WHEREAS citizens who have overcome communication disabilities through the services of
audiologists are now able to lead independent, productive, and fulfilling lives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
MAY 2013
be declared: Better Hearing Month
in the City of Huntsville and invite all citizens of Huntsville to recognize the role of
audiologists in improving the quality of life for people with communication disorders.
