PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-41
WHEREAS Willie Mae Jones was born June 5, 1933, to Luelle and Central Jones, in
th
Huntsville, Texas, and this year celebrates her 80 birthday; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Mundy joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at the age
of 12 and continued throughout her life with missionary work,
ushering, and singing in church choirs; and is now a member of St.
Paul United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern Star; and
WHEREAS in 1950 she married Walter Bass and had three daughters, Saundra,
Pam, and Yvette; and is now the proud grandmother of nine
grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS after working at Huntsville Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide,
Willie Mae decided to share her love and compassionate caregiving
by making a career of private duty nursing, taking her on travels
around Texas and across the country; and
WHEREAS Willie Mae met and married Wendell Mundy with whom she shared
many happy years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
June 5, 2013
be declared:
“Willie Mae Mundy Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to celebrate the life of Willie Mae Mundy,
who has been a very special member of our community for these many years.
