PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-17
WHEREAS the Sam Houston State University Bearkat Football program attained
an 11-4 season in 2012 that included their second consecutive
Southland Conference football championship and appearance in the
NCAA Division I Championship final; and
WHEREAS five of the players earned the honor of being named All-America
selections in 2012; and
WHEREAS a total of 21 student-athletes, a program high, received All-Southland
Conference honors following the 2012 championship season; and
WHEREAS Sam Houston State’s Willie Fritz was named the Liberty Mutual
NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision 2012 “Coach of
the Year”; and
WHEREAS Coach Fritz has also emphasized a culture of academic achievement
and community responsibility among the Bearkats, making the entire
program even more of a credit to Huntsville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
“Bearkat Football Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to show their spirit in support of the Sam
Houston State University Bearkats throughout this year.
