PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-43
WHEREAS Ennis “Mack” McCowan was born June 24, 1908, to George and Effie
Anderson McCowan, the second of five children, in Hopewell
th
Community, Walker County, Texas, and this year celebrates his 105
birthday; and
WHEREAS Mr. McCowan was schooled in Galilee, graduated in 1927 from Sam
Houston School in Huntsville; and
WHEREAS Ennis was a member of the last graduating class from Sam Houston
Industrial and Training School in 1929, then going on to honorably
serve his country in World War II, and married Annie Sterling in
1946, with whom he shared many happy years; and
WHEREAS there are many loving nieces, nephews (including eleven he and Annie
raised), and cousins who are joyful to share this special day with him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
“Ennis McCowan Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to celebrate the life of Ennis McCowan,
who has been a very special member of our community for these many years.
