Proc. 2012-34 Texas Tourism Week 05-05-13-12 PROCLAMATION NO. 2012-34 WHEREAS travel to and within the United States provide significant benefits for the nation, and contribute to personal growth, education, cultural understanding and enhancement of America’s image around the world; and WHEREAS the travel industry is among the largest private-sector employers in the U.S., supporting 14.1 million jobs in 2010, including 7.4 million directly in the travel industry and 6.7 million in other industries, and generating $1.8 trillion in economic output in 2010, with $759 billion spent directly by travelers that spurred an additional $1 trillion in other industries; and WHEREAS travelers’ spending directly generated tax revenues of $117 billion for federal, state and local governments, funds used to support essential services and programs; and WHEREAS Huntsville/Walker County data on annual travel-generated spending is $81.6 million, tax receipts are $996 thousand, and the travel/hotel industry generates 1,076 jobs for Huntsville/Walker County; and WHEREAS leisure travel, which accounts for more than three-quarters of all trips taken in the United States as well as Huntsville and Walker County, spurs countless benefits to travelers’ creativity, cultural awareness, education, happiness, productivity, relationships, and wellness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: May 5-13, 2012 be declared: TEXAS TOURISM WEEK in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in this special observance and conclusion of the week by enjoying the Town Creek Music Festival. st PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 1 day of May 2012. __________________ Mac Woodward, Mayor
