PROCLAMATION
NO. 2011-09
WHEREAS Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church has always honored or paid
tribute to the matriarchs and patriarchs of the church; and
WHEREAS for many years, early in December, the men of GZMBC would host a Seniors
Prayer Breakfast, later spun off into The Parade of Roses Day, in an effort
to acknowledge on whose shoulders we were standing; and
WHEREAS the tradition of recognizing the seniors of the church as 'The Roses,'
symbolizing one of the most beautiful of all flowers, was adopted beginning

at the 512 11 Street location, and continued in the current location at 426
Highway 190 East; and
WHEREAS each year, a new concept or twist is added to the Roses Celebration, such
as the naming of a King and Queen of Roses, as well as inviting special
guests and speakers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
December 12, 2010
be declared: “Greater Zion Missionary
Baptist Church Parade of Roses Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of the Roses’
achievements and special contributions to our community.
