PROCLAMATION
NO. 2014-10
WHEREAS the Walker County Historical Commission was established by the
Texas State Historical Survey Committee, now known as the Texas
Historical Commission, 50 years ago, and the first organizational
meeting of the Commission was held on November 14, 1963 ; and
WHEREAS the Commission is an arm of the county government and members
are commissioned by Commissioners Court to preserve, protect, and
promote Walker County’s rich history; the Commission initiates
actions and cooperates with state and local programs to encourage
awareness of historic preservation and foster appreciation of
Walker County’s historical significance; and
WHEREAS the Commission has worked to mark the County’s sites of historical
importance and encouraged the placement of markers at numerous
cemeteries, churches, buildings, and homes; receiving many
Distinguished Service Awards from the Texas Historical
Commission throughout the years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
