PROCLAMATION
NO. 2016-53
WHEREAS Gibbs Bros. & Co. is believed to be the oldest continuous business in Texas still on its original site and under the same ownership, having been a cornerstone of Huntsville
since its establishment; and
WHEREAS Gibbs Brothers and Company's private bank became the Gibbs National Bank in 1890 and the First National Bank in 1922, providing financial stability and the opportunity for
investment in the community growing around it; and
WHEREAS it is with great pride that we look back at the involvement of both the company and its founding family in the concerns of our area, noting their significant achievements, steady
leadership, and generosity to local institutions; and
WHEREAS today we recognize the accomplishment of Gibbs Bros. & Co. as a continuous entity for a length of time rarely achieved anywhere, and thank them for their many contributions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: Gibbs Bros. & Co. Day
in the city of Huntsville, and urge all residents to join in congratulating this historic company on its notable past and its next 175 years in Huntsville.
