Proc. 2019-09 - HHS football team, state quarterfinals - 12-18-2018 PROCLAMATION No. 2019-09 WHEREAS this fall, for the first time in 28 years, the Huntsville Hornet varsity football team went all the way to a regional championship/state quarterfinals game; and WHEREAS the Hornets scored three playoff wins this fall, after having won only one playoff game from 1992-2017, making them 5A Division II District 10 champions, Bi-District champions, Area champions, Region Semifinal champions, and Region 3 finalists; and WHEREAS from among the eight teams in District 10, the Hornets received the following awards – Coach of the Year, Rodney Southern; Overall MVP T’Vondre Sweat; Offensive MVP Matthew Southern; 23 players were named All Academic by maintaining an “A” average during the season; and 19 players were on All District teams; and WHEREAS tonight we proudly recognize the accomplishments of the outstanding young men and their coaching staff who represented our community week after week, all the way to statewide acknowledgment of their substantial and significant achievements. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that December 18, 2018 be designated as: Huntsville Hornets Champions Day in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to congratulate the 2018 Huntsville Hornet varsity football team on their triumphant success.
