Proc. 2018-33 - Dawson Garner Eagle Scout Day - 7-21-18 PROCLAMATION No. 2018-33 WHEREAS the conferring of the designation of Eagle Scout is one of the highest awards that can be bestowed upon a Boy Scout, as it requires years of dedication and commitment to achieve, since Eagle Scouts act as leaders and role models in the community; and WHEREAS Dawson Garner began scouting in 2011 as a Tiger Scout, earning all of the Cub Scout Ranks - Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light, and even the "Got 'Em All Award" by earning every Academic and Sports Belt Loop in the program, as well as all 20 Webelos Activity Pins, and, at age 13, is one of the youngest Eagle Scouts on record; and WHEREAS Dawson is a member of Troop 98, and has earned 45 merit badges; has been inducted the National Honor Society of BSA; and has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Den Chief; and WHEREAS for his Eagle Scout project, Dawson partnered with the Sam Houston Memorial Museum to identify and label more than 20 different tree species on the grounds, and created a Tree Identification Program (TIP) Sheet to assist and educate others; and WHEREAS the City of Huntsville is proud of Dawson Garner, as he exemplifies the values that make a community strong. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that JULY 21, 2018 be designated as: Dawson Garner Day in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to join in the celebration of this achievement and acknowledge his special contributions to our community.
