Proc. 2018-31 - Carol Smith Day, 5-17-18 PROCLAMATION No. 2018-31 WHEREAS Carol Grisham Smith was raised in Huntsville, fifth generation native of the community who was educated and raised her family here; and WHEREAS she served as an HISD administrator for sixteen years and was an adjunct instructor at SHSU before joining the Chamber staff in January 2008, as Manager of Membership and Community Development, and being named its President in December 2009; and WHEREAS Carol has been an active part of many organizations, participating in HLI Class 12; serving as Board Chair for the Huntsville Education Foundation, as State President of the Career and Technology Administrators of Texas (CTAT), and as President of the Walker County Fair Association; helping develop the Youth Leadership Institute with the City of Huntsville; and working with others to bring the Promoting Our Positives Committee to life; and WHEREAS many awards in recognition have come Carol’s way, including being named Administrator of the Year by two state associations while in education, being named a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow in 1996, receiving the Chamber of Commerce Education Service Award in 2000, and being recognized as an Outstanding Alumni of Home Economics at SHSU. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: MAY 30, 2018 be declared: CAROL SMITH APPRECIATION DAY in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage citizens to join us in thanking Carol for all she has contributed to our community.
