Proc. 2018-17 - Linda Pease, Citizen of the Year, 3-20-18 PROCLAMATION NO. 2018-17 WHEREAS Linda Pease has been a changemaker and leader for the arts and for art in our lives since her arrival here in 1972, starting with her many years leading the Huntsville Enrichment Activities Program (HEAP); and WHEREAS since her first position with the Huntsville Public Library, she has been a special member of the City staff for forty-three years, these days primarily bringing exhibits, programming, and events to all through the Wynne Home and with her work with the Huntsville Arts Commission and the Friends of the Wynne; and WHEREAS she is also active in community-led arts and enrichment experiences such as the National Book Awards Festival, the “heART of Huntsville”, The Nutcracker at the Wynne Home, and the SHSU Arts Committee; and WHEREAS Pease was particularly instrumental in Huntsville’s receiving the Texas Commission on the Arts Cultural District Designation, one of only seven cities so honored in the first year it was issued, among other local projects and grants she has overseen to state and national acclaim; and WHEREAS talented, tireless, and always full of enthusiasm for her community and its residents of all ages, we find Linda Pease is a most deserving Citizen of the Year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: March 20, 2018 be declared: Linda Pease Day in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to celebrate this passionate and tireless arts advocate who has brought to life so many memories for our community.
