Proc. 2018-15 - National Vietnam War Veterans Day, 3-24-2018 PROCLAMATION NO. 2018-15 WHEREAS in 2012, President Barack Obama declared March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day, formalized in 2017 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day by the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act; and WHEREAS from 2012 to 2025, the United States will observe a 13-year Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, as over fifty years have passed since the last troops withdrew from Vietnam on March 29, 1973; and WHEREAS many of those who fought so far away and under such difficult conditions have faced very difficult times over an extended period upon returning home; and WHEREAS today, we visit the somber memorial in Washington, D. C., to remember the over 58,000 soldiers who paid the heaviest tolls, and we seek to assist and support the veterans who came back, as well as their loved ones. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: March 29, 2018 be declared: National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to remember the sacrifices and long recovery of the United States and our citizens who served in Vietnam.
